How can different healthcare and caregiving providers collaborate more effectively regarding the elderly and ageing? This is what ten research projects, which have been granted a total of just over 50 million SEK in the call; Elderly and Ageing 2024, now will investigate.

Elderly people who need healthcare and care often require input from several different providers. The providers need to collaborate, so that their efforts can be coordinated and so that the needs of the elderly person are at the core. Unclear boundaries or insufficient cooperation between different providers can create problems for staff, the elderly, or their families.

As part of Forte’s assignment in elderly and ageing research, funding was announced in the spring of 2024 for project grants in this field. Now, Forte’s board has decided to allocate just over 50 million SEK over three years to projects that will contribute to improved healthcare and care for the elderly in the Swedish welfare system.

– Forte has identified several major areas of issues related to the elderly, where new knowledge is needed, and where existing knowledge must be applied in practice. With this call, we want to support research that can contribute to developing methods and approaches for better collaboration between different providers in the area of the elderly and ageing, says Ulrika Thomsson Myrvang, Senior Research Officer for the call.

Examples of topics that will be studied more closely thanks to the call include how broad collaboration in elderly care and ageing can be beneficial, co-creation of integrated care, identified needs for coordinated person-centered dementia care, and collaboration between dental care and caregiving staff for a more cohesive care process.
